Wow! There are a lot of beautiful camping opportunities in Oregon! Such beautiful country with wonderful outdoor diversity. We started near Bend at an alpine Lake then decided to head for spots that may have less mosquitoes (as this was an especially bad year for those pesky little buggers!)
The rivers were awesome! Being down in scenic canyons with a wonderful diversity of beautiful trees and other flora along with the awesome rock formations in every direction made for a very special experience! The temperatures were in the high 90s but we had the river to keep us nice and cool. The fishing was awesome too–I only wish I’d switched to fly earlier!
“Forest Bathing” or “Shinrin-Yoku” is a term I recently became familiar with. The basic idea is that mankind developed in nature and that being present in nature has a calming effect, even a healing effect not only for our sense of well-being but also benefiting us physically. Studies done in Japan clearly show that experiencing nature has a positive effect on both body and mind. I don’t know if the Japanese studies go into this, but I’ve found experiencing nature with myfamily and friends has a healing effect for our relationships. Sharing adventures with my loved ones builds and strengthens connection. All of this is true for our animals as well. Getting back to nature is a good, maybe even essential.
