It’s actually ground transportation. That’s right, truck drivers are perhaps the most at risk personnel in times of full-blown conflict, and here is why.

You may have heard the saying, an army marches on its stomach. Having your forces well supplied and fed is the first requirement to any successful military campaign, and each and every truck driver is aware that their comrades need these supplies, or they may very well die.

Now just how dangerous this job will depend on what country you are driving for. In the Iraq War, American vehicles were especially at risk of IED attacks, and the US has since made strides in armoring their vehicles and improving their transportation strategy.

During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, vehicles were poorly maintained, thrown into clustered convoys and told to drive. Many Russian truck drivers were left defenseless, without gas, and with rotted tires, leaving Ukrainian forces to pick them apart.
